The furl was more easily readable, colourful, visualy friendly wheras the html was plain,boring, basic, black and white type list that I would get lost whilst I was reading.

The HTML was compacted, simple, basic – not a lot of work to make the site

The FURL looked like it had more information as it had a small bit of info under each direct link.

The furl interested me a lot more as I found it to be more like the webpages that I use myself.

So anyways, this course has opened my eyes to how frequently people use blogs, whether they just read them or they comment or they write them , it is all done on a frequent basis! I personally wouldnt use a blog for anything other than what I am using it for now, I think that for a university to use blogs is fantastic, I believe in this course a lot of my support and a lot of the reason I am pushing myself through this is because of all the positive things people say about my blog!

The question asks me if I have breeched any copyright laws with the pics on my page. And the answer is I dont think so. I used the image of chef that was supplied to me through my tutorial. I tried to upload an image that I took of my daughters bday cake earlier today but that wouldnt work and if I had used that image and had referenced myself underneath it I think I would have been pretty ok with that one too.

Now if I put the Curtin logo on the top of my webpage No I wouldnt be in breech of Copyright laws as Curtin The Curtin copyright document states that unless it is a confidentil paper you may use any material that Curtin ‘owns’ 

In saying this though before using anything from any copyrighted site or image I believe you should first confirm who is the copyright owner because if I had a site and it was copyrighted to me and I said ppl could use my site and its images etc and u downloaded one image and it just so happened that that image was copyright to someone else that had given my previous permission then you would be in strife!

I HAD 42 ERRORS AND 5 WARNINGS… Not the best outcome, but an outcome

I think that I got these errors because I am very new to all of this. I think that with a bit more practice and understanding I could tell where I went wrong. I hope I could anyway

Most of my errors related to my document type… and highlighted in red was < like a whole lot of them so I am assuming that I went wrong somewhere along the line with them!

I guess this program is really good to help people validate their pages before they put them online, or even whilst they are online. . . as this program offered u the cchance to upload files or direct it to the URL of your page.

I dd do 2 different webpages and although both were very simple I am glad that I didnt run the one with the links through W3C as I believe I may have brought up a whole lot of different errors.

1. Grab your readers in the first paragraph and explain as much as you can in that small piece of writing because if they only gaze over your page they hopefully still get the point.
2. Highlight points, I know that I get very bored with webpages so I like the ones that have the info that I really need easier for me to see
3. Include information or an overview on your main topic on each page because you cant make them follow links you have provided
4. Dont write a novel, keep it short and sweet… Max info least reading
5. Dont put links in the middle of a sentence as the reader might not come back to your page

AWESUM.

So after reading through 26 pages of “So you want to make  a webpage” (Joe Barta) I did exactly that I made a webpage and for my first one I was pretty impressed.. atleast someone was!

So thats pretty much the lowdown of my webpage! Now let me tell you, that simple design WAS NOT EASY TO DO!

But by the end of it I was getting the hang of it! I think… Well I “got it” enough to make another one which was very simple and easy and pretty much just included everything from the tutorial. colours, links, rainbow writing…

Now I know I was supposed to upload this into presentations in Blackboard but I and many others have NO IDEA how to do this so I have uploaded it here and I am hoping that I do not loose marks for this!!! xx please oh sweet lecturers!

And the difference between HTML and blogging is MASSIVE

Blogging is simple, I write on my blog like I would write an email or have a convo with a friend, HTML is a bunch of codes strewn together to make a design.

Actually hang on, you could just enter your blog or your info into the <body> of a HTML and then post it as a html doc and it would be seen on the web, I guess the difference isnt that much when you look at it dfrom a different way cause I now am thinking that you could put all of this into a body of a HTML doc and then you can add your little codes and that would give you colours, backgrounds etc…

The only difference that I am now seeing is that with a blog program like this one (wordpress) they have supplied me with my background colour and my layout, so they have done all the hard work.

 Can someone tell me if I am on the right track?

Oh and to the other thing,

Hell yeah I feel a sense of achievement.. look at my webpage.. wouldnt you?!  bahahah!

Last night at 7pm Aleisha, Ali, Craig and Myself went onto ICQ chat to have a look around and discuss what we liked/disliked about ICQ compared to what we like.

I personally am familiar with chatting on facebook, as I said in my previous blog I used to use MSN but only when I was younger. I find that instant chatting is not what  interests me on the net anymore. I enjoy keeping in touch with everyone but I prefer email rather than instant chat. Whilst I was using ICQ i noticed that along with your instant chat with other people you can join rooms and chat with other people, total strangers, if you wish.

Facebook only allows you to talk with people that are added to your friends list which I like because you know everyone who tries to chat with you rather than having to get rid of weird strangers left right and centre!

So in a nutshell, facebook allows you to chat and network within your friendship group and allows you to extend your group of friends which I personally prefer. ICQ allows you to network in a different way, allowing you to join rooms and play games with people all over the world, whether you know them or not!

You may want to think about and reflect upon what you enjoyed or didnt enjoy about that chat method and what problems or benefits you think that method offers for Internet Communication.

I downloaded ICQ and I was like what the hell is this? After fiddling around for a bit I went onto the discussion board and found that Aleisha and Craig where having a chat at 7pm on wednesday night so I tried to add them…. DIDNT WORK…. Thankfully they sent me their ICQ numbers and that worked so the three of us and Ali all met up for a chat which was supposed to be answering the above question but you know what girls are like… poor craig could hardly get a word in..

There was talk about kids, work, jobs, nappies…. you name it we went there!

and I suppose there was some slight study going on in the background

We spoke about what chat we liked best. I prefer facebook chat if I am going to chat at all. Others that were mentioned were MSN and Skype. I have never used skype and have only used MSN when I was younger to ‘keep up with the cool kids’ ….

I suppose the pro’s for instant chat are that you can have a goup discussion but a con is that within that group discussion arises several different one on one discussions

A con is that what ever you type gets sent I am yet to find an instant chat that lets you erase what you have just typed, so when you finally build up the courage to tell that boy you have a crush on him and then regret it its too late sister…

But a pro is that it is quicker than sending email back and forth for a day just to get a simple answer!

Personally I dont enjoy instant chat as sometimes people get left out and other times I just want to check email or something and people wont leave me alone!

Thats enough rambling for one post!

and I dont particularly like discussion boards… but I’ll love DB for this course …. or will i?

So finally, got onto some list dont ask me what its called I didnt really pay to much attention (something on that topica site), but from getting the general gist from an ‘outsiders’ point of view as well as the help that some ppl gave me on the discussion board (ok, i guess they arent that bad) I hope I have finally figured them out…

What are the pros and cons of email lists v discussion boards?

So, If I was to join a list say about dancing then I would be part of that ‘Community’ anything I said on that list would be sent to everyone else who is also in that ‘communities’ email inbox and same goes my way, anything they write I would receive direct to my inbox…. Unless you are part of this list you are not able to view the threads…

Whereas with a discussion board they are viewable by anyone who stumbles onto the site….

I guess some of the pro’s and con’s are

The list gets emailed straight to your inbox but the discussion board needs to be checked regularly (and if its anything like the one on blackboard which I check three times a day thats still not enough) so it could get annoying but then again depending on how full on and busy your list is you could get an inbox full of email too… so I guess it is up to what you prefer..

With the discussion boards you can have a bit more of a private chat and I think you can feel like you have gotten closer with some people more than others, with a discussion board you are able to reply to complete threads or reply to single people with the lists this is not possible, everything you write goes to everyone….

I really dont know how to label each as pro’s and con’s because I guess it just depends on the person. Personally I prefer discussion boards as I am able to check the threads in my own time and come back to the ones that I havent read yet and also I like to be able to chat with people on a more personal level which I think is achievable through a discussion board.

Are there certain kinds of communication or purposes more suited to one than the other?

I think a more personal communication is able to be attained through a discussion board rather than the list. As for the purposes I think it all comes down to what you want to get out of it

went to that topica website and registered, then I thought I had joined a list but apparently I hadnt, then I had but it was a new list so there was nothing on it. This has been so frustrating and annoying. I think I have had enough for today.

Not interested in trying to work these sites out on a saturday arvo… made no sense to me… none of it

Think I’ll wait until one of our lecturers set one up so that I can learn with people in the course. . . .
